Army Museum, Sunday 29 July
A joint display by "Foreningen Beredskapstid 1939-45" and the Sodermanland
Regimental Museum Society, in memory of the bombs that fell around Stockholm.
1939-45 display at the Army Museum
On the 22 of February 1944 bombs fell over Stockholm, islands in
its archipelago, Norrtalje and Strangnas. Today, this is not
well known, maybe because to this day it remains unconfirmed
who dropped them and why.
The display focused on anti-aircraft defence and showed the
museum visitors everything from a 20 mm automatic, a machine gun
mounted for anti-aircraft use, tripod binoculars and a siren.
The bicycle-stretcher and two motorcycles "Monark-Albin" were
the vehicles on display. A good turnout of enthusiasts in a great
variety of uniforms from the era contributed to the atmosphere.

Uniforms tailored for females were in greater use then.

|
The display consisted of a re-enactment in the form of an imaginary
aerial defence drill. During the rest of the day, all the objects were
on display, with the volunteers ready to answer questions from the
audience.
|
The sentry at the gate, the anti-aircraft machine gun as well as the
binocular and siren, all classic images of the period.

The display culminated in the alarm being sounded and to the
enjoyment of the audience, mock fire was given from the 20 mm anti-aircraft gun
and the soldiers fired blank rounds.

Mock fire and blank rounds made the courtyard a noisy place.
