Our projects

The museum association is currently involved in some projects on a smaller scale than the Museum Project. You can read about some of them below:

Russian amphibious tank

The Arsenal has undertaken the task to get the T-37A which is kept in Sweden to running condition - with the aim that it will take part in the film about Mannerheim.
Recently (March 2009) we were informed that the Winter War scenes will be shot towards the end of 2009.
The vehicle is running now, thanks to a couple of hundred hours put in by association members, in a short span of time and on entirely voluntary basis.

Strv m/37 returning to its roots

Strv m/37 no. 157 is delivered to the Institute of Military History in Prague!
Previous to this delivery there was no CKD AH-IV-S (factory designation for Strv m/37) in the Czech Republic.
The delivery took place in conjunction with Tank Day when we also displayed our Strv m/37 runner, no. 146.
The trip was possible thanks to generous sponsors: MILMAC, TT-Line, Swedish Volkswagen och The Swedish Armed Forces.

Salvaging four former shooting range targets

Thanks to "intel" from an alert local resident, we could save four old targets from a disused shooting range outside Gavle. An exciting operation far into roadless terrain. Read the story and watch the photos here.

From the bottom of Lake Malaren

A few years ago a salvage operation was carried out in a marine environment! The object was a former target in the form of a Strv m/21-29 (Lk II) which we had seen on old photos from the island "Stora Rullingen".
Read more about "Stora Rullingen" and the salvage operation.

The process of procuring an armoured car and a tank...

The process of procuring an armoured car m/39 and a m/40L tank from the Dominican Republic is still under way. As yet, early 2009, the deal between the Domincan Republic and the dealer buying the entire surplus batch, has not come through.
To us these two vehicles is something great, but they are only a small part in a huge surplus batch, and to those running an entire country, a surplus sale is supposedly a minor thing.
After more than 50 years - what matters two or three more? With a stretched "soon" an armoured car and a tank are on their way home.

Sweden's first tank

In 1921, Sweden bought 10 tanks (LK II) from Germany. The purpose of the purchase is supposed to have been to use the tanks for protection of the parlament and the government. These 10 vehicles were to become the first tanks to serve in Sweden, and they were designated Strv m/21. A later modification was designated m/21-29.

Strv m/37 restored

This tank has been restored by enthusiastic volunteers, dedicated to keeping the vehicles in the regimental collection in running condition. The amount of time this restoration has taken in total is not known, but during the period starting august 1999 and ending may 2000 approximately 2000 hours were spent on the restoration.

Memoirs of Sweden's first tank enthusiast

In the spring of 2005 the association published the memoirs of Bertil Burén, who was the founder of the Swedish Tank Corps. Having read his memoirs it is very clear that without him, the progress would have been 20 years behind. Sadly, it is also clear that he sacrificed an otherwise brilliant military career to achieve this, a fate that he shares with many visionaries around the world, throughout history.
The book is currently only available in Swedish, and can be bought through the Museum Association, at the Army Museum in Stockholm and the Museum of Figures in Strangnas. A leaflet (also in Swedish) describes the book and Bertil Burén in greater detail.
